About
A rare charming four-door sideboard was acquired from Shangxi province, western China. The cabinet has been restored and relacquered with an olive green high lacquer finish. This piece has a unique unsymmetrical door structure: the 2 doors in the middle are smaller than the 2 doors near the frames. The open side of the middle small doors is edged with a strong frame-like panel as a joint to one other door, which gives a false impression that the joint of the 2 doors have a structural column frame in the middle. A very interesting design.
The paintings on the door are peonies which represent fortune and water lilies which represent purity. There is poetic calligraphy writing on the top corner of the left door: 春暖花开spring blossoms. This sideboard is certainly a statement piece that will lighten every room.
