A pair of painted trunks are acquired from Beijing. They were originally made in the late Qing Dynasty for a newlywed couple of a noble family in the capital of China. The one with still life drawing is for the bridegroom.  The hat in the drawing represents a wish of the high status; the feather pens inside of the vases show the bridegroom is an intellectual or a scholar; there is also a Chinese Double Happiness word喜喜 in the middle of the drawing, which means congratulation to the marriage. The bride trunk was drawn with peonies, which is the first of one hundred flowers, symbolises the beauty, noble and elegance of the bride. There are countless daisies on the trunks, which signify happiness, purity, innocence, peace, hope, and beauty;most importantly daisy represents love in Chinese culture.

The trunks are restored. Both moon locks on the front are replacements. The handles on the sides are original.
