Description
About
This is a fine example of an antique Chinese wood cabinet, likely from the late Qing Dynasty (19th century), meticulously restored to preserve its original patina while enhancing structural integrity. It exemplifies traditional Ming-style proportions adapted for practical storage, with a compact, rectangular form that balances elegance and functionality. The piece has been sympathetically restored, evident in the refreshed lacquer finish and reinforced joinery, making it suitable for contemporary interiors while retaining authentic historical character.
• Finish: Deep vermilion red lacquer, applied in multiple layers for a glossy, protective sheen. The restoration has addressed minor craquelure (fine cracking typical of aged lacquer) without over-polishing, preserving the subtle texture of age.
• Top Surface: A removable, fitted lid in matching red lacquer, slightly overhanging for a protective ledge—versatile for displaying small artefacts or as a lidded compartment.
For maintenance: Avoid direct sunlight to prevent lacquer fading; dust with a soft cloth and occasional beeswax polish. This cabinet would excel as a statement piece in a study, bedroom, or gallery space, evoking timeless Sino-elegance.
