About
An I Ching (Yi Jing) plate is typically inspired by the ancient Chinese text The Book of Changes, one of the oldest and most influential works in Chinese philosophy. The I Ching dates back over 3,000 years to the Western Zhou Dynasty and was used for divination, cosmology, and understanding natural patterns and human experience.
While some plates were used as ritual tools, many others—especially stone or jade roundels—were created as symbolic objects representing harmony, balance, cosmic cycles, and protection. Round plates with a central hole are stylistically reminiscent of bi-discs, ancient Chinese ritual objects symbolising heaven.
These I Qing plates draw on archaic decorative motifs associated with early Chinese art and symbolic meaning.
I Ching plates can be used as wall or table décor, as tea or coffee serving plates, or even as a base plate for cookware.
