About
Moth relief tile/plaque sculpture designed and made by artist Cindy Cantelon.
A collection of tile/plaques sculptures in relief that can be displayed as wall art, used as a decorative accent with other tiles like the samples of photos to show a few of them installed with regular tiles. They can be placed inside or outdoors around the yard or in the garden. Hang it on the exterior of your home, by a doorway, on a fence post or a garden gate, just a few ideas for this lovely piece.
This beautiful large insect is sculpted after a Cerisy Sphinx female moth, to have the look as if it is resting on the bark of a tree. In life, the colours of the Cerisy Sphinx moth are light tans and browns, creating beautiful shapes and forms, until it opens it’s wings and displays a show of colour, pinks blending into yellows with blue surrounding the black eye spots on it’s hidden inside wings.
The Moth Relief Sculpture Plaque is first carved in wax, using the lost wax method cast into bronze for the original design, then reproduced in silver pewter. The piece is hand finished and copper plated with a blur green patina. It is coated with a clear protective finish. The design is fairly high relief giving it a 3-dimensional feel. It also has good weight, weighing in at around 1/2 lb.
Cindy’s formal studies were in fine art, painting, drawing, photography and sculpture. She lives and works with her husband, Marshall creating art at their country home/workshop/studio on the west coast of British Columbia, just a couple hours and one ferry ride northwest of Vancouver.
Nature is Cindy’s inspiration. She has been creating her Earthly Creatures Designs for over 25 years!
They hand design and produce all their art metal work. Their designs start off as an idea, then are carved and sculpted in wax and cast in bronze using the lost wax method. They create all our jewellery and small sculpture designs. Some of the materials they used are sterling silver, gold, bronze, copper and silver pewter. The pewter we use is 100% lead-free with a touch of real silver in it. It’s the highest quality pewter one can use. The copper plating is of the finest quality.
Each one of their pewter pieces is handcrafted so no two finishes will look exactly the same. Their unique patinas are true and strong and sealed with a clear protective coating.
