About
A beautifully preserved late C19th deep red lacquered cabinet featuring distinguished traditional recessed floating panel construction. This rare piece was acquired from Xian, Shanxi Province. The cabinet’s impressive visual presence derives from its imposing size, original colour, well preserved, and wonderful patination. The geometry of its symmetrical panel front adds a striking yet refined linear effect to the A shape design, 2 doors were designed to be closed itself verticality by gravity. There is a carved slim panel above the doors which adds vitality to the solemn piece. The outline of the piece is all rounded, including all corners which is Chinese furniture classical popular design style in 17th, 18th and 19th centuries started from The Ming Dynasty.
Chinese domestic architecture made no provision for inbuilt storage or cupboards, and therefore impressive tall cabinets as this one were usually custom-designed for a prominent family and thereby displayed status and wealth. However, our restorer did add a removable shelf inside for modern use.
The piece has kept 100% its original feature, including the original colour but added a layer of transparent lacquer to protect the piece.
