An elegant classic Chinese 条案 console table has been restored with a beautiful teal high gloss lacquer finish. This console was specially made for someone’s birthday. There are Chinese characters 寿 ‘Shou’ (Longevity), Ganoderma pattern openwork engravings, and embossed lotus patterns on the skirt.
The longevity pattern is one of the traditional patterns in ancient China. It is a type of text pattern. Mostly applied to porcelain, furniture, and cloth.. The decoration”Shou” is one of the most popular Chinese characters. The seemingly ordinary word “shou” contains people’s love for life and the pursuit of auspiciousness. After thousands of years of historical and cultural refinement, the rich artistic conception it contains is recognized by almost every Chinese. The character for longevity has gradually been artistically patterned and has become an auspicious symbol.
These types of narrow tables used to be made for the ancient literati and scholars in China, which are much more elegant than table cases and square tables. They were used for painting, drawing, reading, writing, and so on. Today this type of furniture is perfectly used as a console table for displaying ornaments.
